Gary is CEO and Managing Principal Consultant of Magenta Ocean, a management consulting and coaching firm focused on helping small and mid-sized businesses improve performance through multiple capabilities including management consulting, executive coaching, team coaching, and project management. Gary is involved with all aspects of Magenta Ocean’s services including leading the firm’s engagement team on client projects. The firm deploys key capabilities including leadership and management development, communication, strategy, sales, marketing, operations, and human capital – areas that matter most to small and mid-sized businesses. Prior to launching Magenta Ocean, Gary’s rich management background included responsibilities as both corporate executive and small business entrepreneur. Gary served in several senior-level positions, including most recently as COO of Tetra LLC, a start-up technology integration company launched in 2018 serving the commercial, multi-family, mixed-use, and education spaces where it specializes in build, design, solutions, and service. Prior to Tetra, Gary served as COO at Peloton College, an education organization where he led a turnaround by launching new market-driven programs while shedding unprofitable offerings. He improved organizational performance by cultivating an esprit de corps among team members and focusing on customer service, employee development, cost containment, and embedding rigor and execution into core processes. Gary also served as COO at Ability Holdings, Inc a private equity-backed enterprise, where he boosted revenues from $63MM to $400MM, increased year-over-year EBITDA, and generated a five-year 47% compound annual growth rate at the 2,500-employee company. Additionally, as a portfolio company executive, Gary’s management experience involved working alongside private equity companies BC Partners and The Riverside Company. Prior to his chief operating officer roles, Gary served as Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing at NTMA Training Centers. A former small business owner in the media, restaurant, and fitness industries, Gary developed a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities encountered by small and mid-sized business leaders – and, in turn – allowed him to gain strategic, marketing, operations and related functional skills necessary to address the everyday challenges of SMBs. Gary, a long-time resident of Colleyville, TX, enjoys spending time with his family, leadership and management books, fitness, playing golf with his sons and friends, and volunteering at Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Grapevine, TX. A former competitive athlete, Gary was basketball team captain at Napa Valley College and Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach at Victor Valley College. Born in Dallas, he is a loyal Dallas Cowboys fan. Gary holds an MBA from Texas A&M International University and a B.S. in Management from California Coast University, cum laude. He earned Executive Certificates in Financial Management from Cornell University and Organizational Leadership from Jack Welch Management Institute.
